Botox

In today’s day and age, where youth and beauty is so highly valued, it’s no surprise to see the exploding popularity of Botox® treatments. Botox® is still the most popular anti-aging treatment largely due to the simplicity of the procedure, its safety and fast, effective results.

WHAT IS BOTULINIUM TOXIN?

Botulinum Toxin is a naturally occurring protein derived from the Bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. The popular brand names used are BOTOX®, DYSPORT®, and XEOMIN®. When used cosmetically, it can smooth out deep lines and creases, restoring a more youthful, less stressed expression to your face.

WHAT IS BOTOX® COSMETIC AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only FDA-approved product to temporarily improve both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines around the sides of your eyes.  Repeated contractions from frowning and squinting are the main culprits that cause frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox Cosmetic targets the muscles that are used in the repeated contractions in order to temporarily reduce muscle activity thus creating a visibly noticeable, smoother, and less “wrinkled” appearance.

HOW IS BOTOX® COSMETIC ADMINISTERED?

In order to temporarily improve moderate to severe crow’s feet, your physician will inject BOTOX Cosmetic into the orbidularis oculi, which is the muscle surrounding the sides of your eyes. If you are looking to improve moderate to severe frown lines, BOTOX Cosmetic is injected into 2 muscles, the corrugator and procerus muscles.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? **

  • The skin appears dramatically smoother
  • Facial lines disappear or diminish dramatically in just a few days
  • Prevents future static lines and creases.
  • Normal activities can be resumed almost immediately after this treatment.
  • It only takes 2-3 days for the injections to begin to take effect and 7-10 days for full onset.

PREPARING FOR THE TREATMENT

During your complimentary consultation with your physician, a full medical history will be taken and assessed in order to determine whether or not the treatment is suitable for you, the potential side effects, and the benefits you can expect after the treatment.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?

Often referred to as a “lunch-hour procedure,” BOTOX Cosmetic is a quick, 10 minute procedure that requires no downtime or recovery.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

BOTOX will not impair your ability to drive or return to work after the treatment.  Essentially you can return to normal activities after the treatment with the exception of the following: avoid exercise for 24 hours after the treatment, avoid massaging the area for 24 hours, and use caution if flying immediately preceding the treatment.  It is safe to fly, however, we recommend you wait 48 hours before flying.  We also schedule a follow-up appointment 14 days after your first treatment in order to assess your body’s response to the treatment and answer any questions you may have.  Subsequent injectable treatments after the initial visit and first follow-up do not require follow-up appointments.  It’s as simple as booking an appointment for the injection and you are on your way!

WILL IT LEAVE ME EXPRESSIONLESS?

At True Med Spa, we believe that cosmetic injections are designed to enhance your natural appearance therefore we will never leave you expressionless. Prior to your first injectable experience, you will first undergo a complimentary consultation where your physician will discuss in detail how the injections work and assure you of any hesitations you may have. Additionally, BOTOX Cosmetic procedures are always administered by experienced and trained medical professionals.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR BOTOX® TREATMENT?

Beginning in our twenties, facial lines and wrinkles begin to appear that can affect your self-esteem and your appearance. With Botox Cosmetic we can help you restore and enhance your appearance, your self-esteem, and even your choice of career.  Botox is not just for celebrities anymore, it is commonly used by men and women who are looking for a younger, more relaxed appearance, which Botox can provide.

WHO IS NOT SUITABLE FOR BOTOX® TREATMENT?

While Botox has been safely used by millions of patients, we recommend that pregnant or breast feeding women, patients suffering from severe neuromuscular disorders, Bell’s palsy, or blood coagulation disorders, do not have Botox treatment.

WILL IT INTERACT WITH MEDICATION I’M TAKING?

Drug interactions can occur when Botox is used concomitantly with other medications. If you are taking any medications, especially aminoglycoside antibiotics (gentamicin, neomycin) aspirin, anti-inflammatories, gingko biloba, and St. John’s wart, please consult with your physician prior to Botox injections.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Botox has been used for over 20 years to treat facial wrinkles and its safety and efficacy has been evidenced in many clinical trials.  In addition, there have been no long term side effects reported from the use of Botox.  However, while uncommon, temporary adverse effects may arise from the treatment.  Occasionally a small bruise may occur at the injection site which can be easily covered with make-up.  In very rare circumstances, patients may experience heaviness or descent of eyebrow/eyelid which can last a few weeks.  Prior to your Botox treatment, the physician will assess your risk for this uncommon side effects and adjust your treatment accordingly.

I HAVE SEEN CLINICS OFFERING BOTOX® MUCH CHEAPER

You may notice that Botox treatments and prices vary from one clinic to another. Botox is actually Botulinum Toxin A which is what is supplied to all medical clinics in a manufacturer’s vial containing a specific amount of vacuum dried neurotoxin (powder form). In order to inject the Botox Cosmetic into the patient, the healthcare professional must first add saline solution to turn the neurotoxin into liquid form, a process known as reconstitution.  Because of this, the strength and efficacy will differ from clinic to clinic depending on the amount of saline that was added to the original powder sent from the manufacturer.

With this in mind, it is important to be aware of this because you will notice that prices can vary dramatically between clinics.  99% of the time, the “bargain prices” that are advertised at facilities mean the product has been diluted far beyond what’s recommended or even effective for results.  You may even be told that you are getting a large “dose” of the product when in reality you are being injected with mostly saline solution.

Botox is a prescription only medicine and should be considered a medical procedure carried out in a controlled environment and administered by a qualified, medical professional.
